The successful candidate will contribute to Varentec’s GEMS (Grid Edge Management System) platform by building new features and functionality for a fully scaleable architecture.  In this role you will interface and support utility customers, translate user and business requirements into technical design documents, participate in ongoing architecture, design and devlop code and maintain the database across a private and in some cases a public cloud. Design and develop interfaces to utility telecommunications networks as well as to the SCADA systems and other operations and support systems. You will contribute to design decisions involving performance, scalability and security implications. In this role, you will interact with other members of the engineering team, as well as product management and marketing teams.

Qualifications

 

  • A BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, Advanced degree preferred with multi-disciplinary skillset
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in backend development, preferably SQL and NoSQL
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (C++/ Java/Python etc.) on multiple computing platforms (such as Windows and Linux)
  • Experience designing, deploying and managing large scale high availability enterprise systems
  • Sound knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and experience with large SQL based systems
  • Experience with MySQL, and Oracle SQL helpful
  • Ability to learn and develop software interfaces (APIs) for electric utility and SCADA systems such as Multispeak, DNP3, SOAP, Java, CIM-XML, OPC, REST, XML-RPC, IEC 61850
  • Strong network fundamentals including the OSI model, TCP/IP, IPv4 and working knowledge of IPv6
  • Knowledge and hands on experience with Encryption protocols and Security, such as IPSec, Public Key Cryptography, SSL/TLS, AES, NERC/NIST standards
  • Experience in data analytics and optimization. Strong understanding and experience with performance, efficiency and scalability issues. Big data search, data storage and data indexing is nice to have
  • Experience with one or more of the following is nice to have, but not necessary: VMWare, Kafka, Casandra, Docker, AWS(EC2, RDS, S3, ELB, Elastic Search), Azure
  • Expertise with Linux or other server operating systems
  • Use of version control tools such as Git or Subversion
  • Experience with working in an agile environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
