The Team
Varentec is a electric infrastructure company that manufactures a single product the Smart Transformer, in multiple sizes and configurations, to support the evolution towards a Smart Grid, and a more efficient national electric power system.
Varentec believes that optimizing our energy grid is one of the best ways to conserve resources, create less green house gases, and put less pressure on our environment.

In addition to engaging in the development and delivery of power electronics devices and overall solutions, Varentec can provide strategic consulting and advisement, cost benefit analysis, technology reviews, and exploration into complex problems. Andrew Dillon - CEO
Andrew Dillon received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MS in Communication Technology from the U. of Texas at Austin. Andrew built and sold a software company prior to becoming an advocate of advanced alternative energy solutions. He combines knowledge of large-scale software systems, hardware technology, and trends in the Smart Grid, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.Rudy Limpaecher - CTO
Dr. Limpaecher received his PhD from UCLA in the field of Plasma Physics, and worked for 22 years in the directed energy technology group at the AVCO Everett Research Lab / Textron. His areas of expertise cover high power systems up to 1.6 MV making him a pre-eminent power conditioning expert. Rudy is the inventor of the AC-Link technology, which has numerous applications for military systems, industrial power conditioning, and electric transmission and distribution applications. He holds 12 US patents and many publications.
David Romero – President
David has deep experience in finance and operational management, providing executive leadership in the industries of port operations, mining, real estate and energy utilities technology. He received a BA in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has been a champion of the advancement of the AC-Link patents, invented by Dr. Limpaecher for over 10 years. | |
